LEAVES Website for Mar-Apr 2019 Issue

Excerpted from “Leaflets” column:

Easter Sunday is not just another Sunday; it is the greatest of Sundays, the greatest feast of the Church. So important is Easter that it is not simply a one-day celebration. Easter Sunday begins the 50-day Easter Season, ending on Pentecost.

At Easter our Lord defeated death and rose from the dead. Is there anything greater than the Resurrection! So let our Easter celebrations reflect this great feast. Attending Mass ought to be our first consideration. If we have not attended the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday, we should partake of this rich liturgical celebration on the next day.

Our feasting on Easter is all the more sweet after our fasting of Lent. If we know others who do not have families or friends with whom they can gather, we might consider adding a setting for them at our Easter dinner table.

On the special Feast of Easter and always, we at LEAVES remember you, our dear readers. You are in our hearts and in our prayers and we joyfully sing our Easter Alleluias! Christ is risen! This is the day the Lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice in it. May God grant you abundant blessings at Easter and always - Fr. Thomas Heier, C.M.M.

St. Jude Provides Miracles

I have received miracles from praying the St. Jude Novena. My daughter is a college student and I was sure that the time frame for her financial aid had expired. I was very sure. The tuition is quite high, and I knew this would entail needing student loans for the remaining year.

I began saying the novena to St. Jude and continued to do so for a month. During this time I also asked St. Jude for an internship for her in the summer. She had been looking, but nothing had come about.

I continually checked my daughter’s college account to find that one day the tuition had been posted, but no financial aid. I am ashamed to say that I felt that St. Jude had failed me. It hurts me even now to type these words.

I called the university to check on the charges and to verify the tuition and check for any other charges. They informed me that the financial aid had not yet posted to her account, but should soon. It did. At that moment I heard a voice say, “Oh, ye of little faith. Blessed are those who believe without seeing.”

My daughter also was offered an internship out of the blue. She commented, “It just fell from the sky.” Indeed, it did.

St. Jude has always answered my prayers. Miracles are not logical, they are gifts. I am sending a donation to help LEAVES encourage devotion and awareness of St. Jude and the miracles he performs and to give glory to God - Theresa.

Prayer Delivers Results

My donation is in thanksgiving for prayers answered by the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Mother, my guardian angel, Ss. Joseph, Agatha, Peregrine, Therese, Jude, Anthony and George, and the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael.

I had surgery for breast cancer 14 years ago and thought that was it. However, on my last mammogram a mass was discovered on the opposite breast. Biopsies showed invasive cancer cells. I had surgery and waited for the results to see if I needed radiation and chemo.

A friend of my daughter gave her a prayer of Fr. Damian the day before Pope Benedict XVI had canonized him as a saint. Within two hours of praying to St. Damian and asking for a miracle, my doctor called to tell me that the pathologist, after studying the mass, could not find any cancer cells, even though two previous procedures showed invasive cells.

My prayers were more than answered - Marie G.

The Power of the
Divine Mercy Chaplet

One of my friends, Tim, who attends daily Mass, pointed out a young man, Declan, in his 30s, who had suffered for some time from a brain tumor. It was a joy to see Declan. I admired his strength of character. Often he couldn’t attend Mass due to operations.

As time went on, Declan found it difficult to attend daily morning Mass and eventually was simply unable to do so at all. He was at home, awaiting death. Tim invited me to visit Declan. After completing a Rosary and placing holy oil on his forehead, I mentioned to Declan’s family that we should join together in praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

After the chaplet was completed, Declan, who was more on the other side than here, gave me a thumb’s up. We were truly amazed. Grace within his soul made him realize the greatness and efficacy of the chaplet.

This was the last time that I saw Declan. Within a week, he passed into eternity. May he rest in peace, and may the souls of all the faithful departed, through Jesus’ holy and Divine Mercy, rest in peace. Amen - Andrea Remlin.

Prayer for
All the Faithful Departed

“Mercy and faithfulness have met,
Justice and peace have embraced,
Faithfulness shall spring from the earth,
And justice look down from heaven” (Ps 85:11-12).

I want to offer thanks for prayers answered and favors granted through Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Ss. Jude, Padre Pio, Therese, Fr. Engelmar and numerous others - Carol F.

+     +     +

I am writing to tell about several times that Bl. Engelmar has interceded for me. I did not always write down these events, so I don’t remember the ones from a long time ago. On April 4, 2016, I started praying for an elementary librarian position in South Dakota. On June 6, 2017, I got a position in a town that I love that had never had a certified librarian position before in the elementary schools. So now I needed a house to live in.

I started praying for a place to live in on June 7, 2017, and on June 14 a woman accepted our offer that was $6,000 less than her asking price, and this was in a seller’s market!

On July 7, 2016, I prayed for my mom to gain weight, for her leg sore to heal and to find someone to take her to the nursing home daily. Almost instantly a young very busy woman started taking her. In a reasonable amount of time her sore healed and she gained weight.

On April 28, 2016, I prayed for a full-time summer job with a good wage and on May 9, 2016, I got a great job doing day care at the YMCA for a decent amount per hour. Because of a move I had to leave behind my weekend job at a group home for boys with disabilities. They range in age from 11-17. I was there for two and a half years and miss them. Not only do they worm their way onto your lap, but they also worm into your heart! I again had to start praying for a part-time job. Thank God and Fr. Engelmar for all my gifts - Marilyn.

Novena in Honor of
Abbot Francis Pfanner

Abbot Francis Pfanner founded Mariannhill Monastery, and 110 years ago its monks became the Congregation of Missionaries of Mariannhill. He was not only a great missionary, but also a holy man. The cause for his beatification has begun. We have available a novena in his honor and will send you a free copy of it when you send a stamped (postage for one ounce), self-addressed envelope to us at: LEAVES, P.O. Box 87, Dearborn, MI 48121-0087.

Prayer for Priests

O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests:
for Your unfaithful and tepid priests,
for Your priests laboring at home or in the mission fields,
for Your tempted priests,
for Your dying priests,
for the souls of Your priests in purgatory.
But above all, I recommend to You the priests dearest to me:
the priest who baptized me,
the priests who absolved me from my sins,
the priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Holy Communion,
the priests who taught and instructed me,
all the priests who have touched our lives and to whom we are indebted in any way.
O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity.
Amen.

Praise to Our God
By Sr. Marcella LaKoske, OP

Winter will soon be over
and spring will be in the air.
What a blessing the different seasons
with changes so pure and fair.

The tiny crocus will peek through snow
and buds will appear on the trees.
The sights and sounds of birds returning
bring a lovely message upon the breeze.

God will speak - and ice will melt.
He breathes - and little streams will flow.
Untilled lands will yield their crops
and all He touches comes alive and glows.

He’s made this world a place of beauty,
and for every blessing earth displays,
we’ll sing and bless His kindness
and offer Him our grateful praise.

The Rainbow
By Margaret Peterson

What of a rainbow, shining so bright
In all of its beauty, a lovely sight?
What of us - Can we shine too? -
By following the Lord the whole day through?

To Carry a Cross
By Bernice Laux

When at last You call me, Lord,
to come and stand before Your face,
I’ll place my crosses at Your feet,
releasing them before Your grace.

Now my eyesight fails me, Lord,
but I’ll  toss that cross aside,
for then I will see You clearly
and with You now I will abide.

Though on earth I cannot walk,
I’ll run to You on swiftest feet
as that cross too beside me fails.
Then my Savior I will greet!

All the crosses I have carried -
sorrow, loss, grief and pain -
will lie outside heaven’s gate
never, never to carry them again.

My Loving Friend, Jesus!
By S. De Barthe

Many years ago You were my neighbor and my friend.
And then we lost touch with each other
And I wondered where You have been.
Then one day I heard You preaching,
As I saw You from afar;
Your words were so encouraging.
Then I learned just who You are.

Now as I search for goodness,
I realize how blessed I have been
For the very special memory
Of the neighbor I now call my Best Friend.

Words of Wisdom
From Pope Francis

Today more than ever, there needs to be a revolution of tenderness. This will save us
